Timing is everything
I have no clue exactly what Bushy has done, and I don't take too kindly to folks dropping hints and then withholding information.
That said, the VE does have a timing advance mechanism built into it (and the P pumps do not). The VE pump has a vane pump (in the front) that feeds the inside of the injector pump housing. A vane pump is a constant displacement pump, which means that as its speed increases, so does the volume of fuel pumped. This relationship between volume and rpm is used in conjunction with a precisley sized "vent" or relief hole so that the internal pump fuel pressure rises and falls with engine speed. The pressurized fuel pushes against a spring loaded plunger that runs cross-wise, behind where the AFC mounts, and rotates the rollers that the injector plunger rides on. This advances the timing as engine speed (and internal pump pressure) increases, to make up for the length of time it takes a pulse of fuel to travel down the injector line to the injector. (This time is constant, in seconds, which means that it increases in degrees as engine speed increases.)
By modifying the springs and shim pack behind that plunger, you could change the timeing curve vs. rpm of the pump. It is possible that you might be able to give the engine a timing kick by switching on the KSB, but I don't THINK that the KSB provides any timing advance over max rpm timing -- I may be wrong on that point, however.

Geezzz Alec...that's pretty darn harsh....it's no wonder alot of guys won't even OFFER ideas or hints any more....kinda proves that "no good deed goes unpunished"...
My apology for trying to encourage some thinking....what can I say.
At this point, I REALLY feel like telling you what I'm thinking but most know that's not my style, so..
later....alot later.
bob..

Bushy....its hard to get someone's intent over a keyboard and monitor...you cant see their face...or tell if they are poking fun....i've made the same mistake misinterpreting things i see in black and white...and life isnt like that...
i have not been on this forum for very long....but i belong to many others and have even modded at a few...you guys have something going here that is very special...a sharing of ideas and willingness to help...that are very rare indeed...
i cannot believe that Alec's intent was to alienate you...or push you away...the words probably just did not read in the same manner as was intended....
your input would be very sorely missed indeed.....

I have been left out of secrets in the past and nobody likes to be left in the dark.
Slam the pump against the head until it wont go anymore and then hot wire your ksb solenoid for some additional timing. Wouldnt leave it on all the time, but good for racing or dyno runs.
That's how I know to get ALOT of timing and it works.

Pastor never said he WOULDNT tell us...he just wanted us to think about it for a while...disucss it in the forum (the actual intent of the forum i believe)
THEN...when we couldnt come up with the solution....he would tell us....or i would egg his house!!!!
G1625S...tell them this isnt life and death....just mods to already powerful trucks to make them MORE powerful!!!!!!!!!
not worth getting bent about
members like ME...who are uncommonly lacking in intelligence...but devastatingly good looking
need ALL the help we can get with respect to bombing our trucks!!! Pastor Bob...has TONS of info.... we just need to get at it somehow...lol...vs

Naturally, I named the thread 'timing is everything' which, of course, it isn't. I don't think anyone on this forum expects folks to just give away trade secrets that are the product of, in some cases, a lifetimes worth of work, research and dedication to hot rodding. And while it can be frustrating, one persons way of sharing ideas can't possibly jive with everybody all the time. When Don Garlits showed up in Cali with a rear engine dragster, he didn't exactly hand out blueprints, but it's plain to see folks got the idea after a while. Regardless, I've been prompted to dig up some Bosch literature in addition to what I see here and it's helped a lot with my (lack of) understanding

PB, I ment no disrespect, on the contrary (sp) I thank you for ALL of your wisdom, you have helped me more than you know and for that I thank you.
It's because of guys like you that I can work on my own truck instead of getting a second mortgage to pay someone else.
Thank you again,
MP

Yaa..ok, I can't stand it either....I got my panties in a bunch after a long day and no sleep...that's my "excuse"...sorry guys....
Alec, no harm no foul....I don't usually jump from the stool on short notice...I should apologize to all of you for being short tempered...that's gotta be a 10 RWHP penalty..
On another note....looks like some thinking is going on...cool..

I've seen folks in the same room not be able to work out the the pettiest of disputes...It's refreshing to see enough mutual respect on this board to find time between family, work and all that goes with it to make an effort to make things right in DTR land
Now I gotta go set the boost preload on my flux capacitor

the thougt of you wearing panties
and these panties being in a knot
is playing havoc with the theatre of my mind
just where exactly is the knot?????
ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww....
i read an article on the pumps in the first gen...it was either on this site...or RC Central...about the fact that the timing is already variable on theses vehicles...and that the second gen trucks are completely static timing...have you found a way to manipulate this feature??? and could you give us a brief idea on how the stock dynamic timing works???? (can you tell...i am trying to pry the info out of you in bits and pieces...lol
)
do you shop regularly at vic secret????? vs
