My speedo has failed. I think it is the speed sensor on the tranny. Is there a way I can test it. Like spin it in a drill and measure voltage.

My speedo failed once before and the dealer replaced the sensor.

The above should spit out all the threads on 1st gen speedometers. The common problems are bad sensors, stripped gears, and stripped drives.
