tensioners - part numbers >

I'm in no hurry for a tensioner and did a little checking and came up with the following. there are a LOT of first genr's here that are much more knowledgable than me on this so if this list is missing add. it or let me know if any are wrong. problem is a few companies no longer list anything for first gen cummins, but some things, like a tensioner, fit second gens. anyway take a look. I found prices all the way from $69 for a Goodyear to $160 !! for a Four seasons brand. thanx , crossy

Dayco- 89219
Factory Air- 45844
Goodyear- 49505
Four Seasons-45844
Gates- 38157

I paid about $120 or so for one from NAPA and it was squeaking within a few hundred miles. It's not all wobbly like the old one was, so I just live with it, but it sure is annoying.

Dayco is the preferred tensioner, runs about $60.

dayco is up to $80 around here, but it's way cheaper than some. guess they hold up OK?

I could not come up with factory numbers either. I looked through sticky's, did i miss it?

Woodrat , do you remember the brand/part number because that's good info to know(on bad ones).

seems 75% of all the first gen'rs I have seen either just got one or need one so it's all good info to know . thanx , crossy

I paid $80 for a Dayco recently, after my $75 AutoZone Korean junk puked its grease (8mo old; still had to fight for the warranty). I think Dayco are considered top of the line, and the g/f's shop recommended them.

I just went and looked at the list of various essential part numbers I've been collecting for this truck, but I didn't save any info about the tensioner.

It came from NAPA, but I don't remember what brand it actually was.

If you have an Auto Value store around check with them. Last summer I put just the wheel on my old one bearings shot and was just $22 for it. I figured the spring in it was ok as it took alot of pull on a 2' breaker to move it and has been fine since.

When mine went it completely shredded (took me longer to take the shredded pieces from being would around the other pulleys than to put a new one on), had to go about 5 miles home with no belt. Took it off and went to store and parts guy looked at it and checked it out and told me I could just buy wheel or the whole thing. Whole it was $80it is a dayco. Check the tensioner and if spring is strong all you need is the wheel on the bottom. I'll check to see if they have an online store.

found a listing on Autozone, who I normally never go to, was listing their own part number #305219 and was a Dayco unit. just picked it up for $65(In Del with no tax!) and it's made in the good ol U-S-A. Get-em-while they last! crossy

I followed your advice and went down to my local Autozone. I was surprised at what they gave to me. I read them the part #305219 and they had one in stock! Sweet! Next, they give me the box that says: Goodyear Accu-tensioner. I opened the box and found a tensioner that looked kind of cheapo, it read "Made in Korea". The part# 305219 was hand written on the box! The actual part number was something from Goodyear. Autozone's computer showed "Dayco", but this is obviously not the part they physically have. Good grief! Where can I find a REAL Dayco?

I can't remember how long ago it was that I replaced mine, but as soon as I heard it start to squeak, I ordered the Gates tensioner from Geno's Garage. I wasn't going to mess around and replace just the pulley and find out the tensioner itself was squeaking. I replaced the whole thing! Ran me $80 but I haven't had a single problem with it and it doesn't "twitch" nearly as much as the old one.
