Tell me if this is true (question about boost)

I was told if you're pushing X pounds of boost you are putting down 10X horsepower to the wheels. This is with a stock turbo and is true to about 350 whp.

Example: My engine is producing 23 lbs of boost at WOT. So, according to the formula it would mean the engine is producing 230 whp.

I don't think this is true, but I wanted to run it past you guys.

It is just general rule of thumb. Don't put your truck on the rollers and "expect" to see 250, but it probably will be close.

Well, that kinda sucks. I haven't really done much to mine and I'm already at the limits of the stock transmission

You have to remember that you might be at 250hp, but depending on timing, you're probably have 500ftlbs torque.

My truck will just about peg a 35 psi boost gauge but there is nooo way it`s making 350hp so I`d consider it a very general rule.

At 32psi boost I'm at 241whp and 584wtq. Thats with a 5 speed which puts higher numbers on a dyno vs. auto trans. I dont think its all that accurate considering all the different turbos out there.

At 50psi my truck made 501hp but i could shut the wastegate and peg a 60psi guage if i wanted to. I think if the truck has a perfect balance of drive pressure vs. boost pressure then you will be close the 10hp per psi rule. At least thats how i adjusted mine.

i think it might be above stock rating.
like most stock trucks can hit close to 18psi so they are close to 180 hp

so if stock is 18 and you can go to say 35 i would think you close to 170 hp over stock at 35psi, maybe? but probally not that high

From what is in my sig I am having my trans built up next week with a new second gen flex plate as well, a reworked converter built buy a local shop here , shift kit and other goody's as well. I have trans fluid that looks like metallic paint. I suspect the converter is coming apart.

To much power through the stock converter and it won't last long.

I think that is a very valid assumption and with the stock, or close to stock turbo I would guess that once you get to maybe ~25psi manifold pressure the drive pressure starts to exceed the manifold pressure. Then the 1psi=10hp rule goes out the window.

I didn't think it was true. Just wanted to see what you guys thought. My brother never had first gens. Maybe it's truer to the later models (98.5+)

How true would this be if it was a gas motor? Or would it be the same general concensus?
