Tappet cover seal and fuel in oil advice needed
I've started to take of the parts neccessary to get to the tappet cover on the side of the block. I really do not want to the ve pump as i dont know how to lock it into time with the engine and what special tools i would need. I think im going to try to pull the tappet cover off tommorrow with out removeing it if its possible. I also have fuel getting into the oil somewhere, I'm thinking the stock lift pump or the ve front seal. But i dont know how to check either one for this. The only way I can see a injector leaking to oil would be through a cracked body... Correct?? I was gonna have a shop do this but they quoted me 1000 just for the seal and engine mount. And I have both parts in hand!!! Any advice on any of this would be greatly appreciated, and please be gentle this is my first semi major engine work outside of school (Wyotech) Also this is a 93 with 380,000. Thanks very much
Pulling the pump is much easier. You dont need to lock pump in time it is keyed just pull it put back in same place no special tools really pump wrench makes it go faster but not a must have. As far as the fuel in oil pull the lift pump and supply air to inlet and outlet 5 psi max. You will hear / feel it leak if not do the same to inlet on inj pump. Injectors don't usually leak or crack but is possible. Test other two first then if no luck pull sticks. Hope this helps.
Not being a smartelec but perhaps you should borrow or but a repair manuel to give you a heads up on what your dealing with. There are expensive stuff that can be messed up by not knowing. That being said with proper research shouldnt be that bad of job. LOTS OF LUCK
