super 40

Anybody run a super 40 with a stick? Do they surge?

Ive been getting lots of conflicting stories, most of them pointing towards buying a schwitzer because blah blah blah....

BUT I dont want to buy a super 40 if its gonna be finicky...

Thanks.

shouldn't surge at all. i believe they have MWE. but the stories you're hearing are probably from p-pumper guys. we can't pump nearly enough fuel to surge or "bark" even a standard 40. they, however, can pump plenty more fuel then our VE's can.

I wouldn't worry about em, if you're up for saving 300-400 bucks or putting it elsewhere, a Super will do ya just fine.

I'm 50/50. You wont have any problems with the super 40 but I've yet to see one new for under $800. For a couple hundred more you can get a new S300G that will spool faster and cool just as well if not better.

To answer your question...The Super will live. Unlike an HX40. But look out for the incoming.......Bark the standard hx40 with alot of fuel and you WILL snap the turbo shaft. You have to pay to play...Speed cost money, how fast you wanna go? Or a least thats what I have been told since the 70"s. And now, its diesel trucks..

I would just put the super 40 comp wheel on your hx35/40 combo with the 12cm housing. I think that would be a sweet setup. Like the he351 but with a little larger housing.

The super 40 an he351 share the same compressor wheel.

Thought about it lol. Part of the reason im buying it, i can get the holset numbers off the wheel and housing to make a 35/super40 hybrid...

But I want the big turbine. The hybrid isn't enough for what I have now...

As for pricing, up here in canada, we get the shaft on parts. The cheapest price I have found for a super 40 so far is 1260 right to me. As for a schwitzer, Im sure I would be spending upwards of 2k. So its not a difference of a couple hundred bucks unfortunately.

Thanks for the input so far...

A standard HX40 will live with a VE pump. The HX40 gets a bad rap from the high horsepower P-Pump guys. The VE won't flow enough fuel to hurt one, unless you run a 14mm H/R.

I have a standard hx40 and a manual and I like it. Spools pretty close to stock and cools lots better! I will never do a hybrid again.

Yes it whistles more with the map ring cover installed then the hybrid did without the cover deal. I can't even imagine how it would whistle without the cover installed!
