Stripped bell housing bolt hole

Rebuilt my Getrag and during install one of the trans to bellhousing bolt holes is stripped. Tried a bit longer bolt, still nothing. Anyone tried to use a m14 bolt in one of those holes? Im just not ready to pull it all out again and am looking for a work around..

Just an FYI Getrag bell housings come with two different bolt hole sizes. The bigger holed housing will take the smaller bolt, if you are not paying attention, but I could see it loosing up over time, or ruining the threads.

This might not be what is going on in your case, but worth noting.

I just happened to catch it on a build years ago. I pulled out 6 Getrag bell housings I had on the shop shelf and found out 1/2 took a larger diameter bolt than the other 1/2 of them. Now I always pay extra attention on re-assembly.

These are the same 1/2x13 bolts that came out. I modified a 14mm bolt and will see if theres enough thread left for it to tighten up tomorrow.

So I took a 14mm bolt and angle ground the tip down and lightly tapered the threads back to the shoulder of the bolt. Then took a triangle files and resharpened the threads. I also cross cut the end to act as a reamer as it went in. Put anti-seize on it and it went it pretty nice. The deeper it went in the tighter it got due to the taper on the bolt. Should be fine until I can fix it next time I pull the trans...
