Strait piping 3" questions

How much louder does it really make it when you drop the muf? I'm having my rear piece re-welded so when I blow smoke it doesn't ruin my paint anymore... And in doing so the guy said he would cut it out and do the tail pipe for what the other shop said they would just do the tail fix for($50)

Its a good bit louder out side but not bad in the cab. I realy like the way it sounds. The bigger the pipe the better they sound I think. Hard to beleve by looking at my sig ha?

Always run a tailpipe when you can. Dumped in front of the rear tire gets old fast, FWIW. I agree, the bigger pipe sounds better. 3'' is actually louder and can sound ratty when really putting the coals to it. 4'' and 5'' are mellower while cruising and very intimidating when you hit the loud pedal

If you have a regular cab, you may want some soundproofing in the cab. In my 91, it was louder than I liked. Went to a 4" straight pipe, and all was better. Sounded real nice til my tailpipe hanger (old electric fence post bent around, and it rusted thru) broke, and I had to run sans tailpipe. LOUD, esp in the hills of Bollinger & Wayne Counties.

Mine ends behind the cab, before the axle, and under the truck, not out to the side. It has a downward turned tip on it and it is not so bad.

i made mine come out to the side so it would sound better, and not blow carbon all under and on the side of my truck

Mine is straight-piped, comes out where it's supposed to behind the tire, and if I roll down the passenger window and open the slider, it's just right.

Talking

I would love to go back to straight pipe if I could but it was just absolutely punishing at anything over idle. I have 4" turbo back and it popped my ears. It sounded awesome but was impractical. Is any body else running straight pipe to a stack in a reg. cab? Maybe my truck is missing sound-proofing that other guys have. I do know that my sliding rear window lets in a horrible amount of sound. I'd like to change to a 5" stack if I delete the muffler. That'd be sweet. I think my employee that has to ride with the stack behind his head would probably quit though.

Hehe, there is nothing like a 4" straight pipe at 7:30 in the morning. Its a great way to get to know your neighbors better! My lady doesn't care much for it, but hey, its my truck.

I just took my stack off...wasn't really too loud, just too high profile. I miss it now, and I've caught so much heck for taking it of (*cough* haloman *cough* cowboy_customs) that I'm CONSIDERING a couple 6'' turnouts It's hard to beat playing pretend-truck-driver just going for groceries
