If memory serves me, the thread size of the sender location is 1/2"NPT, maybe 3/4".

The location, above the thermostat, is 1/2"NPT.

I understand that a spacer nipple must be used to allow the probe to clear the thermostat.

If you will look back a few pages, me, or someone else, asked a similar question, and someone posted a very good picture, along with a good explanation.

As soon as the weather cools, I am gonna be doing the same thing.

I originally used a mechanical gauge/sender and had to use extra pieces to space it out from hitting the T-stat. Recently I changed it to an electrical gauge/sender and the extra pieces were not needed because the electric probe was MUCH shorter. Using the supplied 1/2" reducer it fit perfectly. Here's a pic...

It just bottoms out in the head, it doesn't hit the t-stat. Don't wanna scare some people. Your local NAPA can fix you up with the correct male to double female to male or whatever it is fittings for cheap too.

Bill, That must be why I have installed 2 different probes and they both keep leaking, it must not be seated, and I keep thinking its just a "cheap guage" so I toss it out. Ill space it out and see what I have. Actually Ill have to use a T since my inlet for the coolant filter also uses the same port.
