starter motor from 92 to 89 ?

Hello all:

the starter motor on the 89 D250 seems to be at the end of its days: i checked and cleaned all the connections: relay, battery, and the battery is at 600 instead of the 700 CCA but that is enough typically to crank the old dragon.

I have the starter motor from my W350 from when it was an auto: will it bolt up and connect or not?

If it does, can anyone refresh my memory about the teeth count on the bendix vs. the flywheel?

Thanks y'all!

Starter should be the same but the cca should be more like 1100 not 600.

Well, I have a group27 in and it is rated 700 CCA, the battery is 4 years old and it still cranks. But since you mention a substantially higher number, what group battery and CCA do you have on your truck?

A group 31 is the correct battery it is 950 cca I made a mistake in my first post saying 1100cca. I would try a battery first 600cca isnt much at all considering what you are expecting from it.

700 CCA works for him because of his location, being in Alabama, by not requiring the grid heaters as we do here up north in winter. He probably also never has any issues with the temperature causing the engine oil to thicken.

yeah, you're right about the location/temperature.
After checking/cleaning/scrubbing the connections, and getting a little help from the battery charger, and noticing that the battery has a manuf. date of 2006, I come to the conclusion that a new battery might be needed first, and then assess if the starter motor needs replacing/rebuilding: sounds right?
