spline count D60 front
I thought I read sometime ago on here that our trucks run 32 spline axles? I confirmed that the splines going into the diff. are 35 count, and 31 or 32 count on the stub going into the hub. D60 I'm talkin about here, up front. i sthis correct, and was there a 35 spline count on the stubs on the outer(hub) end??

32 splines is the count on the rear D70u shafts.
Like stated the fronts are 35 at the diff end and 30 at the lockout.
35sp D70 front stubs fit with different lockouts. Better investment to buy aftermarket ones though for more strength at almost the same price as the spicer stuff.

The King Pin Dana 60s in the front of these 1st gens are the same as has been most popularized by the rock crawling community. There are dozens of companies with products to beef up these axles, stubs alloy shafts, beefy knuckles, full C clip conversions, 300m and CTM knuckle joints, CV knuckle joints, bla bla. Check out rock crawling websites like pirate4x4.com, or one of the main after market sellers is dynatrack.
The stock inners are 1.5" 35spline. and the stock outers are 1.3125" 30 spline. The D70 rear is same as the front inner at 1.5"35 spline.
I have failed the knuckle U Joints before the outer stubs in my Jeep with Locked front and 44" tires.(Otherwise identical to my 1stgen front axle). One bonus is when I tow to the trail with the first gen, is that the first gen front axle is a full set of spare parts for the jeep. Just in case.

There is controversy here. Andyr, you say the the rear 70 U is 32 which is what I thought. DieselJunkie says 35 on the rear. I am trying to get my facts clear. Are the 70 u models the 3.07 only or all our first gens? Did I screw it up, or Diesel Junkie talkin about an upgraded 70 rear? Thanks for the facts on the front axle. Yes My outers are 30, not 32, I got 31 and didn't count again, miscounted and assumed 32.

There is talk of some having 35 splines in the rear. Randy's Ring and Pinion told me that all 89-93 Dodge diesels had the 70u and 32 splines. I guess the only way to know for sure is to pull an axle.

The dodge D70u alxes are only 32 sp in our trucks. Other manufacturers used 35, but not dodge.
The 3.07 axle is a D71 and has a different pinion offset for that gear set.
