ok, this is getting lame, i cant get the spindle socket, i have my kingpin parts, but no way to pull my rotor. any part # that anyone know's would help out, the lack of socket is screwing up my game.

 

depending what front-end you have will tell what socket you need

 

Mine took the typical Dana 60 axle nut. Though I have heard of standard hex nuts used on the front....

KD part number 3246, I bought one at Napa for around $40+-.

 

kim8839, i bought 3246 socket this afternoon, it does not fit inside the front hub. The auto parts store's in this area only have the socket for the 3500lb dana 60, that doesn't work. any one else have any idea's ? i really want to put my kinpin kit on.

 

there's a thread here in the sticky's (replacing front brakes and wheel bearings) where the guy I think it was BC who took it off with 2 screwdrivers. Other than that maybe those snap-on ones will fit. Pep-boys carries some various sizes also.

 

So do you need the socket w/ the tangs or a hex socket??? Also, the 3500# axle=Dana 44, 4500# axle=Dana 60, maybe autoparts guy is clueless when it comes to stuff that he can't look up on the computer????

 

I believe i need the socket with the tangs on it, that is what the the auto parts guys are asking also. Thing is, I can't see inside my hub to tell. I thought about screwdrivers, but that sounds like a good way to mess something up.

 

U.S mma, do a search in this forum on "Rebuild your front D60 4x4 brakes" BC847 did a complete write up on r&r of the entire assembly you are working on. He did it without the tool you are looking for. He talks about it on the re-assembly. Hope this helps.

 

USMMA, CTA tools like KD or OTC makes the correct socket for 90-93 4500# Dana 60's with the Warn style locking hubs. It is part #4156.

If you have the black **** selectro locking hubs then I believe the jam nuts are hex style. The Warn style axles use a round nut with for slots in them at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock or 90* from one another.

Your best bet would be to look up CTA tools online, it will give you a picture. There are similar model sockets that will not work, though they look the same. BTDT. CTA should cross to a Napa #. Of course this is if you have the original axle to the truck and we are talking about the Warn style.

 

I got mine from Mac Tools. Part number AS1928A. The description in the catalog says "2 9/16 inch rounded hex locknut socket. Works on 1990 to 1993 Dodge trucks with Dana 60 manual hubs."

It only cost me $22.

ok, I'am a real idiot. I didn't notice the large retainer clip that holds the outer hub together. the kd 2437 tool, the 2 9/16 hex, as a couple fella's allready told me on here, works. Quite well actually. so i got the socket right before napa closed tonight and have everything almost tore down completely, just have to pry off the bottom plate on the steering knuckle for the bottom bearing.
