Speedometer attachment/Overdrive correlation?

My speedometer attachment at the trans case grenaded on the way to work this morning. On the drive home I found that O/D is now non functioning. Is there a direct correlation to the speedo going south? What is the actual correct name for the speedo attachment? Any thoughts and help would be greatly appreciated.

What exactly came apart? That is the vehicle speed sensor there but there is also the adapter and pinion gear there too. The PCM needs to know the vehicle is travelling at least 32 MPH before it will allow O/D.

I believe it is the speed sensor still attached to the transfer case. The adapter where the wiring plugs in is gone.

Thanks Angry Johnny, I didn't now the particulars on the sensor.

Oliver has a few of them lying around. I nearly lost mine as well. It loosened up, but I caught it in time before it fell out....

Surprised the wire didn't keep it attached to the truck..

The sensor has a large nut that screws onto the adapter that holds the pinion gear. Get you a new sensor and connector. Should be all you need.
