i dont really have any spedo shops around here and ive checked the scrapyards and none of them have diesel trucks.
are the ones off of the 2wd the same as the ones off of the 4wd's?

the spedo just quit so i replaced the cable. then it worked for about 100km then stopped again. when i pulled the "ratio reducer" off and spun it by hand, i could feel the little gears inside slipping or not connecting at all.

well in all honesty my buddy took "the cable" off and stuck it somewhere over the tranny and I removed the reducer so it is probably a wire that plugs into it. so I haven't seen what it looks like yet. I'll have a look tomoro. the trucks buried in snow.
Is this for a 2wd or 4wd? The ratio adapter is just another piece of the puzzle that leads to the speedo working/transmission shifting into overdrive. I bought a new ratio adapter from a Dodge dealership. I'm sure a few are still floating around on the shelves.
Im guessing from your user name that your truck is a '92? If so, there is no cable, its all electrical.( fill out your sig with yoru truck info)
This thread shows the different parts and "names" for them from the service manual, which will help when you go try and find them!
"How the speedometer drive works": https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/d...d.php?t=198123
it in the "Stickey" if that link doesnt work..
Since writing that article, I have been told that many tranny shops that repair odometers have the parts in stock to replace/repair the gear reducer gears.
A few things to check....
The square output shaft for the Drive Pinion has a tendency to round off and wont drive the gears... the input shaft for the gear reducer can also round out and cause a problem..
The wiring harness itself is exposed to all the road grime/debris, and any fluids that may have leaked or dripped down the engine/tranny over the years and can break or become loose..
NAPA sells the VSS assembly , the rest of the parts are either dealer only or finding them at a tranny shop.
