speedo and overdrive not working

Last nite I got on my 91' 250 4x4 and it would not shift out of 3rd and my speedometer was not working where should I start?

Check and clean the VSS connection back on the t-case.

Ditto. Mine was loose when I had that problem.

I pulled that and looks like the little shaft broke. I'm guessing the other end is in the spedo gear still.
