Source for eldorado calipers
The literature that came with the EGR kit specifically says to remove the calipers in order to completely remove all the air from the El Dorado calipers and it says that this is the only way. If that is the case, then it doesn't really need to be mounted upright, 5 minutes sounds about right. It is really important to use the parking brake as this is how these caliper adjusts itself, they are a different animal

...MarkUsing the parking brake frequently shouldn’t be an issue for me when I get the parking brake lever. I am **** about warming up the transmission for a few minutes with the truck in neutral before I take off. That is, unless I’m responding to a fire department call. Hopefully I’m not punished too much for my impatient take offs being a volunteer. Gotta hurry when you live about 3/4 of a mile from the station and you’re supposed to be in route in a rig 10 minutes after the page comes. Anyway, I’m getting off topic as usual... Hey, at least I plug my truck in so it’s warmish if I’m going out in a hurry at all hours of the night.

One thing about the Eldorado caliper parking brakes is the fact that one MUST be sure to allow the PB pedal to snap back when releasing the PB.
- The self adjusting mechanism of those calipers uses a cone type of clutch. For the self adjusting thing to work, you've got to let it snap back so as to allow the cone-clutch to jump forward, thus taking up slack.
Youve GOT to use the PB regularly in order for it to keep the rear brakes properly tightened.

. I think that this parking brake setup has gotten a bad rap because people think of them as like regular calipers. They are not even close and how they work is somewhat counter-intuitive. I had a friend call me crazy and I didn't know what I was talking about, about these calipers...Mark
Disc conversion
If it were me I’d do the 3 inch shoe (?) conversion instead of the disc . The best upgrade I did to my brakes was a hydro boost . If you don’t have this or haven’t converted do this first you will pleased with the results it yeilds in braking power .
