I have a sun roof in my 86 and foamed the roof around it with low expansion window foam. It did make a difference and did not create any moisture problems was at - 34 c and it was fine and at plus 38 c last year worked fine no condensation on the roof .The floors though were another matter https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...es/shocked.gif lots of muck in the winter and the floor insulation soaked it up . Still no condensation in or on the roof even with the roof being half glass in the new on the 90 im going to foam just the sides and the rear areas for sound issues and strength . the two roof panels wont collapse then as the light bar on top is going to be bolted through the roof for strength and security as a bonus there will be less of a rust issue than 15 screws lots of money recently to body shop redoing the complete roof and eliminating all the rust

 

I found a local source for sound control.http://www.soundtechco.com/ they carry products for dampening and sound blocking. They cater to the industrial sector, including trucking and off road equipment. Prices are good and you can buy in bulk. If anyone in my area wants to put an order together we can save money. They sell big sheets of butyl damping sheets, and rolls of Mass Loaded vinyl, including one with foam already attached. I will try to do a write-up when I get it going, including some decibel readings. If you are looking to work on your own project do a search for a "sound, management, industrial, acoustics, + nearest city" and I will bet there are manufactures or retailers near you.

Eric, would you be willing to measure the total square footage of the floorbord, firwall, and back of the cab? I will measure the hood and doors. The retailer contacted me and said we can will call an order.

The floor from back wall to firewall is about 8 feet.

The width of the floor, considering hump and other things, averages about 6 feet.

The firewall and around the cowl is about 27 inches x 6 feet.

The back wall is about 24 inches tall.

If I were to order stuff for the interior floor, back wall, and fire wall, the minimum I would count on would be 72 square feet.

If I guy were to also do the inserts in the roof, It would add another 20-25 square feet.

I am wondering about their pricing for the butyl rubber product per square foot.

I agree on the mass loaded vinyl price. The butyl is substantially cheaper from Soundtechno. I have sent off for a quote from Don at Sound Deadener Showdown. If shipping is reasonable we can get the vinyl and closed cell foam from him and the butyl from Tigard. I also like the price for the foil backed acoustic foam from Soundtechno, i will use that stuff in the doors and engine compartment. Thanks for measuring. I still want to track down a decibel counter and get a baseline. I went for a ride to Dallas today, and after getting the doors to seal better and starting to run 2 stroke I think the crew is about as loud as my old truck.

 

Nope its foil backed insulation.Works great for heat and sound insulation.Im using the double foil(foil sandwiched on both sides) for the single wall area of my extra cab and the single foil stuff for other areas like the floor etc.

 

the ribs in my old suburban that are above the ceiling panel were foamed to the ceiling and bolted at the ends.

 

My buddy found an app for that free on his cell phone. Uses it with his band stuff. I'm sure it's not perfect but it would show whatever the change was. Just a thought.
