So I went to get a battery today...
And was told 600 CCA would be "plenty" for my truck. And yes, this person knew it was a diesel. I decided to wait and do some research.
I'm looking for a battery with over 1000CCA for under $100 if possible. I'd like to stay with one battery instead of switching to two. Winter here means down to about -15*F occasionally, but generally a low around 0*F.
So what do you guys recommend, and from where?

Just put in a group 31 from OPTIMA (yellow top) paid $85 for a blemished unit. Comes with the same warranty as the non-blem(plus $8 back when I return the core). Call some of your local battery shops to inquire. D31A and D31T are commercial grade batteries and have a 900 CCA rating with 1125 CA rating. It's been below 0* here this last week and she's been starting up like it's a 100* outside. I purposely left her unplugged the other night to see if the starting would slow or stutter, but it started without hesitation.

Ive got a 1200cca group 31 battery in my truck. More than enough power for everything on the truck.
When i installed this battery, i also replaced the battery cables with new, homemade 2/0 peices, and since my new battery has 3/8" studs instead of posts, i converted my new cables and wiring to ring type terminals, which i like better anyways, and think are more dependable and rugged.
Just food for thought

I got a bro deal when I had my PSD. A friend of mine works for an independant school bus service shop. His dad got 2 Motorcraft batteries for the PSD for $50, brand new in the plastic from one of their parts guys. I got the same deal just because it was too good to pass up. I never installed them in the PSD and I sold the truck. I was planning to use one in my '57 International pickup and in my '83 Ford F-250 gas sucker, but I decided to shelf em until I need a pair for the Dodge.
Where ???

Strange but true. I treated my truck to a new set because the terminals on the originals were just trashed from morons overtightening them, just a shade over $100 for the pair.
