Waste of a trashbag, imo

LOL
That's a good way to have cops on bicycles pull up beside you and hit the bell "Ching Ching" and tell you to pull it over for going too slow.

To be honest, I'm not a showy type person. Smoke from either the exhaust or the tires is wasted power. When I work with race teams, I have a saying, "When the trailer ramp drops, the....uh....baloney stops". Smoke may look cool but that is wasted fuel going into smoke, not go.

(Actually, I don't say baloney, I just try to be family friendly on the internet.)

I still fail to understand the logic of purposely pouring $3.00 a gallon diesel fuel out your exhaust without burning it just to make a lot of nasty, black smoke.

It doesn't impress the neighbors.
It don't impress the guy coughing and gagging in the cloud of smoke behind or next to you.
It don't impress the environazis, though it does give them a great reason to lobby for laws to get all diesel trucks off the roads.
It don't impress the cops, though a good cop will give you a ticket for the safety hazard you just created with your block long cloud of coal black smoke.

BTW . . .it does not make your nuts any bigger either.

Please use some common sense here guys .. . it's fun once in a while on an isolated road, but just plain stupid where there are others around.

Ditto.

Everytime you pelt a Prius with smoke, the Prius driver calls their congressman and Envrio-group to pass laws and regulations to stop those nasty diesel polluters.

If ya wanna show off to someone, blow their doors off instead of blowing smoke.

They don't even care about how fast their cars go... thats why they drive priuss' If they had any sense of reliability or saving the world the logical way, they wouldn't be driving priuses. It takes more fuel to ship the parts to build that prius around the world 3 times for it to finally become a fully functional car. Thats more fuel than an H1 hummer, rather than what our trucks will ever use in its entire life.

I agree with what you say but you seem to have a lot of fuel on a stock charger. How do you keep it clean?

In my younger days, I was involved with ecofreaks. Green Peace to be exact. All I can say in my defense is she looked really good in a swim suit.

I got out of the environmental propaganda machine. I'm still a conservationist and grow trees on a tree farm in Forrest Reserve. I go out of my way to annoy the tree huggers. I take the oldest, most beat up old vehicle I've got and put Indiana's Environmental Heritage plate on it. When dealing with Vegans, I like to point out they are wearing leather belts and shoes. Pamela Anderson likes to say fur is murder but when she married one of her husbands, they were both dressed in leather.

By the way, if you blow their doors off, that's worse. It's one thing to waste money. To put other people at risk on the road by deliberately speeding past them, well, if you hurt someone, you don't want me on your jury. Street racing is NOT drag racing.

i totaly agree with the stopping of this pointless "smoking"I dont mind laying a little soot when im making alot of power merging onto the freeway or pulling a heavy load.Thats what a working mechanical diesel will do.we dont have the technology to fine tune our injection to the point of not smoking under any load.we'll save that for the ford guys.To just belch out smoke to look cool is so dumb!Especially all the "smoke switch" mods out there on the newer trucks.RETARDED.If it keeps up then theyll ban our older 1st gen trucks and it wont be my fault.

That's easy, I turned it down till it just lays a gray haze at full power about a year ago and have been to lazy to update my signature.

On a really hot day it smokes quite a bit, but it was tuned on about a 70 degree day to just blow a bit of gray at 3000rpm, wide open. From a low revs punch it just leaves a big puff, since i couldn't get it any cleaner. (Yes, I tweaked the smoke screw & star wheel)

The truck is much easier to drive and more responsive this way than it was set to smoke like a freight train.

why dont you go say smoke is stupid and that its all show and no go to the guys at schieds diesel and see what they say to you, they would laugh in your faces! My truck may smoke alot but that is only if i choose to make it smoke that much, i can also make my truck drive as clean as if it were stock again. I do agree that there is a time that it is not good to smoke but when you are at a diesel event or hanging out with your buddies i think it is fun to do it. you just have to smoke responsibly, thats all. everybody on this site has had fun at least once with smoke so why cant this guy?

Go talk to the guys at Harts Diesel about Scheid, and they'd laugh in your face. Plus, a pulling truck is a whole 'nother animal than our trucks. In a puller, it gets to the point where the fuel will actually start to cool the engine, which is completely irrelevant to an engine that will be on the road.

Well, to get back on topic!....

Look in the sticky for turning up the pump. Lucky you: you have a 1st gen! You have about 100hp extra for FREE! Drop $200 for some gauges at least first though.

If you want some more off the line response and a small puff, the smoke screw is you answer. No worries about EGT's getting too high

Change your air to fuel ratio a little by rotating the fuel pin, adjusting the star wheel, grinding he fuel pin, or getting a custom fuel pin for about $100. This will also yeild more power and some smoke

Lay the power down! Adjust your fuel screw. Don't play with this untill you have an Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) gauge though.

Adjust your timing: Advancing your pump the standard 1/8" towards the head will get better mid-top end power as well as increased fuel mileage! Your super low down torque will be a little less however.

There is lots more you can do, but it will take a little investment. Like injectors, turbos, exhaust, trannys, the list is endless, as is the addiction!

Happy Dieseling!
