Now my question is how the EDIT do i get my 1st gen truck with my 5 inch turnout stacks to send out a crazy thick cloud of black smoke. im jealous of all the other cummins i see doing it. i know they all have chips but how do we do it????

Turn up your pump, particularily the smoke screw. There are some good how-to's on here. Those guys might be running smoke switches but you can't do that with a 12v.

Sure you can...
Crank the power screw up 'til you start to get runaway, then back off 1/4 - 1/2 turn.
That'll get you smoke on demand.
Then install a valet switch to cut down on smoke when you're cruisin', flip the switch and mash the pedal - instant smoke...

Check this :

http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/more_power/Power_ve.htm

I wouldn't suggest you get carried away with this until you get some gauges.
Boost and EGT especially since these mods can make both go very high in short order.

In the reading where it says to 'take the screw out and put it in a vise' I'd suggest going after the collar with a pair of needle nose pliers, new ones with clean teeth at the front. I worried mine for about 20 mins and it came off.

DO NOT TURN THE POWER SCREW RANDOMLY!!!
You could hit runaway and you'll be sorry.
There are stickies on avoiding runaway...

I know lots of ways to make smoke. I worked on one car with a son of a.....er....little darling who annoyed me seriously. I slid a birthday candle into the exhaust manifold. That new engine smoked like a freight train until the candle ablated. You can always do like the military often does. Make a port to attach a small line and a pump to inject oil (diesel fuel) into the exhaust. The heat of the exhaust will vaporize it but not burn it completely.

Get a more aggressive fuel pin or grind your own. That will make it smoke more.

The easiest way to make a bunch of smoke, without spending a lot of money is a trashbag over the air filter. Simple, inexpensive, and effective.
