Shifting Big Yellow Power Wagon

The '68 PW has a 94-95 47RH tranny with a homemade shifter and toggle switches that lock the torque converter and shift into overdrive. When coming down hill it will only let me lock the torque converter if the gear selector is in drive. Once I manually select 2nd gear coming down hill it won't lock up any more. Tranny shop says that's the way there designed.

Fortunately when coming down hill in drive I can put the auxiliary Brownie box in low to help keep the rpm''s up in drive. But when it gets to steep there's not enough engine braking in D. I need it to lock up in 2nd gear. You guys have any idea on how to get the tranny to lock up in second gear?

That is the way they were designed. You will need a modified valve body to get lockup in other gears.
Cool truck by the way.

I found this a while back and bookmarked it, from another site. Looks pretty easy, but I swapped over to NV4500 before I could try it.
2nd Gear lockup

Love the truck BTW I remember seeing some of your build pics a while back. Got me looking for one.

Why not just get an exhaust brake? Would work better than tranny lockup.

Already got an exhaust brake but your statement doesn't make any sense to me.
Without the lock up the engine isn't engaged to the drive train. The engine rpm''s fall when not locked up so it's not going to give much braking if not locked up.

Can any of you identify the model of John Deere on the trailer?

From what I can remember, that looks like a mid-40s Model D? Or am I way off?

Edit: sweet truck too! Can't help with the question, but really admire the ride.

It's a 1968 W300. I first restored the truck as a regular cab. But there was not enough cab room so I cut the back of the cab off and slid it back 2'. While the cab was off I mounted it on a cab air ride system. Also took out the 10 speed so the Mrs. could drive. The video shows how cramped the cab was. Especially since the firewall was cut back 9" to give room for the '93 Cummins. Now I can slide and lean the seats back.

This is the Mrs. D100. It's got an auto. Turn up them speakers

Thanks Guys, lots of hrs making it an extended cab. In order to make the chassis longer the back half is '01 F350. Which made my life a lot easier getting rid of the old drum brakes. That's why I went with truck wheels. The ford Dana 8 lug is metric and the GM 8 lug is standard. There's 2 metric adaptor sand two standard. Now the tires can be rotated.

That's a 1946 John Deere D. 501 cubic inch 2 cylinder.

Good eye yes the truck use to be an Edison power line truck.
