shift kit
I have a stock automatic transmission right now and it seems that the one thing holding the truck back from being reasonably quick right now is the way the tranny shifts, it seems like it holds first gear to long before shifting to second (when i'm really getting on it from a standstill), then from second to third its alright, maybe a little to slow
I was wondering if putting in a Transgo shift kit would help out my problem, or do I need to look into getting a better torque converter as well. Any comments are appreciated as I am not sure but I would like to put in a shift kit if it will help me out.

Let us know what transmission you have. i know on the 727 there are bands, I dont know what else to call them, that can be adjusted to change when it shifts. THis comes from my dad who is a mechanic, so I dont know how to do it personally.

D o the shift kit like a trans go tfod kit like $40.00 its nice you can change gear hold with springs you will need to take the transmission out of truck to do the kit right have to take off the front pump to upgrade the front seals for more pressure this is what i did what a big diff. like a new truck

i've got the 3200 rpm spring in, and that made it seem like the tranny has trouble picking a gear when you go WOT from a stand still or slighlty rolling start. that is why I wasn't sure if a shift kit would help for that situation, although i have heard that thye make a big difference as keithplacerville has stated. Are they hard to install if you do not no much about transmissions? So far i have been able to do all of the basic mods myself but i'm not real sure about transmissions.

I was lokokin last night on hts's website and they have some pretty good deals on built 1st gen stock, performance, and high performance transmissions minus the TC.
I mean that may be more than you want to spend and I can't remember if that was 727 or if it was the 518 but they had called it street performance. It had been fully rebuilt with red bands and some other stuff and believe it was 900 which was good for like 400HP.
I didn't think that was bad then 650 for the geoernds single disk converter. 1500 altogether a whole lot cheaper than mine is gonna cost.
