shakee front end

I have a 1993 D250,5.9l Cummins, auto, 2wd. I had a bad vibration in the steering wheel (starts at 90kph and gets worse till at 120kph, the s/wheel is lierally jumping up/down. I have replaced the ball joints, upper control arm bushings, coil springs, shocks, , stabilizer bushings, strut rod bushings, idler arm, tire, rims and then had it aligned. Stiil the same vibration ...................has anybody had a s/wheel shake caused by problems in the steering column?

Sounds like you covered almost all the bases. The easy cheap next thing to do is center your wheels. Get some tapered lug nuts and center the wheels on your hubs up front. My steering wheels shook before I centered mine and vibrated quite alot. Try this and if it works it's a cheap fix, if it doesn't work you have eliminated one more possibility. Good luck.

My bad. I didn't read very well this morning. Did you replace just one tire? Like dzl damon said check your wheels for a bent one. A slipped belt in a tire can cause all kinds of vibrations and a bad wreck if it comes apart at speed. Sounds like you have replaced all the things that could go bad. Was your frame checked for cracks around the steering box? Is there any play in the steering box? Good luck on fixing your problem.

Also check your u joints. If there out bad enough it can cause the steering wheel to jump or vibrate.

Thanks Guys, I have replaced both front tires with new ones and installed them on other rims and had them balanced at a tire shop. I did make sure that the lug nuts centered in the tapered holes, also installed new lug nuts. The original rims had been worn and allowed the lug nuts to bottom out and then the rim could still move and had elongated the holes. also replaced the rotors. I thought I had found the problem but NO..........I have heard that these models with the diesel, had a problem with the steering box flexing the frame at the s/box area. Also heard that there is a kit that stabilizes the s/box pitman shaft to the other frame rail, anybody know about this kit?
