SDX 5X.012's, how good are they?

Hi, I just ordered a set of SDX 5X.012 injectors for my truck. Im just wanting to know how everyone like thier performance. What tuning is recommended for these, also how are mpg's affected, do they smoke, how much difference in power, boost numbers, egt's ect...

Any input appreciated, thanks

Just be prepared to wait for them to show up. Three weeks my ***.... But I am happy with them over the stock injectors. No smoke, gained some power, egt's about the same, plus I gained about 1 mpg.

The main thing is they are 145° spray vs the 155° the 370 marine nozzles had.

pods do seem to out flow 5x12,s- at 4x14 they flow a little more. not sure how the math works but ive ran them back to back and had a little more with the pods. maybe it was just the set i tried.

Not trying to fire anyone up but I dropped in a set of 5x.012s after running 4x.014s and I'm seeing more smoke now. I would assume the 5x.012s are flowing more now that I've seen the difference between the 2. Making the same amount of boost but power doesn't feel any more than it did with the 4x.014s.

Sounds like they're over-all decent injectors then.

I ran some 4X.???'s from pensacola injection called "30-40hp" injectors that ran great for a month or so then slowly started getting smokey. There was a very noticeable power gain and I was getting close to 20mpg avg for a while with them.

How would these sdx 5X.012's compare to the 30-40's (when they worked)?

not to detract from the thread,you should be happy with 5x12,s. jim- i found the same thing when i tried 5x12 vs 4x14- more smoke but no more power and a little less boost. im pretty sure mathmatically due to how circumferance is calculated 4x14 volume is slightly more than 5x12. someone good at math? ive also found more smoke isnt always more fuel.

its the flow of the nozzle too... im not an expert but ive read injector experts speak about flow and how adding holes but keeping the same cross sectional area will add flow typically...

also, things like hole shape will change flow. think about holley carb jets. many sizes are the same diameter but some flow more, based on chamfer and other variables.

smoke doesnt always mean more fuel, absolutely. low pop-pressures, poor atomization, and incorrect spray pattern all will add smoke.

now will someone smarter than me post so i look like an idiot?

Im not good with math but as far as total circumference for each injector goes heres what I got:
Approx.
5x.012 = .188
4x.014 = .175
6x.009 = .169

So, there would probably be more flow from the 5x.012's than the 4x.014's. If there was'nt a gain in power, but more smoke that would be due to differences pop pressure, spray angle, and atomization then correct?

So suppose the pop pressures in the set I'm running could be too low and not atomizing as good as they should be or is that just normal for that size injector? IIRC, Nick balanced them all to 238-245 and they have a 145* spray angle.

if they are too low the actual duration of the injection event is longer than normal and atomization will suffer also. mine are set at 245.
