Rundown: VE pump removal
Rundown: VE pump removal
i tried using the search tool but for some reason the search tab stays behind the advertisement and i cant get to it
anyway, heres the deal. my boss talked to his diesel mechanic freind who agreed to rebuild the pump as a favor. all we have to do is remove it for him to pick up.
i need a quick rundown on how to remove the pump, what details must be tended to, and what not to do. the guy is coming tomorrow to pick the pump up and we need to get it off before he is there.

Try the reference above, the only real trick is to remove the drive gear without losing the key into the timing gear housing. For most people the room between the radiator and the access to the timing gear is adequate, but sometimes it is just a lot better to remove the radiator to allow adequate access for the gear puller.
Oh yes, one other thing. Take a center punch and index the pump housing to the engine, so your timing can be found when you reinstall the rebuilt pump. The VE pumps are adjustable, so you want it to go back where you found it.

thanks for the help, we got it out today. one thing im a little confused on, what is this key? we got the pump out, and the gear that the pump shaft was on is still in the case right where it was. there is a key slot on the gear and a space on the pump shaft that fills that slot. are we missing something?
