Anyone have any suggestions to make my truck ride better? It has a 4" all spring lift...not sure what brand. Shocks are pretty worn out too but its completely unforgiving...as in sometimes i hit my head on the cab when I hit a pot hole Right now it has steelies & 33s but soon will have Moto Metals & 35s

 

these trucks just ride ruff... i have seen people use a lighter spring pack to soften the ride, like 1/2 ton springs, but then you have to add on something like an air bag system to haul any weight, but does ride better though

 

The only thing that I would HIGHLY suggest is air bags.

As a suggestion, jack the truck up so that the springs are in full droop. Pressure wash the stinky out of them. Let them dry a day or so and then flood them with an areosol type "Tacky" lubricant.

 

Thanks for the suggestions fellas. Free89 I like that air bag set up! Is that a kit you can buy? Or did you fab that up?

 

My uncle put that kit on about 6 months after he bought the truck (new) and it's made my Kelderman. I have a compressor for the rear and a holding tank on the front bags.

 

I clean my leafs a couple of times a year as BC suggests. It does make a noticeable difference in the ride, sort of like going from a Sherman tank to a mere dump truck. I use a product called TEFGEL it`s distributed by Lawson, works like a charm and lasts a long time, just don`t get it on anything like paint or glass...the stuff will not come off.

How are the front bags set up?

 

Hopefully we'll get some pics up soon of the Norcal Black Cloud Diesel Meet... There were a few trucks there with a four bar link system with two semi truck airbags supporting the rear axle - sans springs!! They say it rides like a half ton but will hold the bed level automatically with any amt of load!

In a 4X4 its the front springs that need the bags (IMO). One to correct the droop and two to give a little more squish to the ride. I've seen a few home fabbed brackets but no air bag setups that can be bought off the shelf. Would love to have though.

 

I don't have any picks but they are on top of the leaf's in the center. The bag bracket I think replaces the factory spring pack bracket and the top is bolted to the frame. I will try to snap some picks tonight.

 

hmm moto metals and 35's huh? sounds familiar haha definetly a great choice.

 

One thing you may want to check while its up in the air at full droop is if the rear shackles on the front springs have been hitting the frame. Mine were and that was effectively dead heading the suspension. I know when I put the longer shackles on to match the RCC lift I made it helped the ride a lot. Secondly when you got to your 35's go d-rated tires as long as the tires a rated for the GVW of your truck you should be cool. Mine D-rated 35's are good for 3200 lbs.

On all my bushings I use a teflon paste from energy suspension. One tub of should last a lONG time. You also may want to check wat the moto metals are rated for. Usually aftermarket rims are pretty weak.

Get some good shocks I have bilsteins and they are great.
