Remote start

Today I had a remote start installed on my truck. Seemed kinda wierd to me to let someone work on my truck but anyway. I only bought this because when it starts in the morning cold the grid heater cycles after the truck is running and makes the headlights dim going down the road for a mile or two. After I had it installed I figured out that it also had a turbo timer built in. I have been wanting to get one since I bought the truck and today I got one by accident. Works sweet it is programmed for two minutes already. Do you guys think that two minutes is long enough. the best part is I got it all installed for 150.00.

I need to get a turbo timer for when my dad borrows my truck. He always forgets to let it cool down for a minute or 2. I've been toying with the idea of a remote start but my wiring skills aren't good.

2 minutes should be plenty. I run the crap out of mine, and by the time I idle down the 1/2mile dirt road to my house in 60 seconds, my egts are already down to 450-400.

Time and patience are all you need to do this yourself. I did mine.

Read the directions thouroughly before starting and refer back to them often. Also, remember to check the wire you think you need to cut into 2-3 times before you actually cut it.

What make is the remote start system and where did you buy it. I also have been thinking of getting one. I like to let my truck warm up before I leave work and our new HR guy put cameras in the lot because he doesn't want anyone starting there vehicles before the end of our shift.

It is a "Ready Start". I got it at Sam's club ~$55.00

What a Moron. Employers up here expect that. Most of them even provide a place to plug in while at work.

Yes he is a and there are 3 of us at work that have diesels (but I'm the only "real" one ) one plug and he doesn't know we use it or he would probably have it unhooked.

Hit the "start" button before you turn the key off and it will run for the programed time.

If you want to really mess with his head, when you get the remote start installed, make a dummy of yourself and sit it behind the steering-wheel.

When he sees/hears the truck start and sees "you" in the truck, then trips over you on the way to report "you" in the truck, maybe he will have a nervous fit and wind up in the nut-house.

I would hesitate using anything that started an engine with no one there to watch the oil-pressure climb up.

TWICE in my driving life, I have had oil-pumps snap their shafts on COLD starts.

Both times, I was watching for the pressure to build and the needle just layed on zero.

Had I remote-started and not checked on things real soon, it would have cost an engine.

No problem, Just have it start a pre-lube pump to supply the oil pressure before it starts, simple to use a Murphy switch to verify the oil pressure before the starter cranks.

No oil pressure= no relay closure to the starter.

The remote should have a delay timer to light the glow plugs or Grids that would be enough time for the pump to start, supply oil pressure and verify its presence.

For the dummy I would get an inflatable one that pops up from the floor so when the engine stops it will lay down again. That would mess with him.

Like OTTO from Airplane.

There's plenty of extra circuts on most auto starts to do as Jim suggested including "OTTO"

Just a question about this remote start? Does it have provisions to "wait to start"?
