How many miles on it? Unless there was something that absolutely needed the engine pulled I wouldn't and I wouldn't rebuild it just because a friend said so either. You can do all the tweaking you'll need to in the truck.

These are very tough engines. Friend of mine rebuilt two 24 valves in medium duty trucks. They were pushing oil out the breather, everyone before him pulled the front cover to reseal and installed a new front seal. They didn't start to push oil out till you got them over 2k rpms. These engines had alot of miles on them, 400k miles in a truck that size is like 800k in a pickup. He was impressed, minimal bore wear, no ridge, used ball hone to break the glaze and put them back together.

Unless you burned it up, I bet it does not need a rebuild at 250k.

What kind of turbo? With just 25hp injectors and turning up the pump you can literaly double the stock HP/TQ. My advice to you would be to keep it simple if its a tow rig. Turn the pump up and add a fuel pin. That with bigger than stock injectors should get you around 275whp/600wtq.

The biggest question is what trans do you have? If its an auto leave the engine alone and get the trans beefed up before anything.

Best bang for your buck right now are either a new tranny (if you have an auto) with a low stall converter or a rebuilt injection pump.

A rebuilt pump does do wonders to vehicles.

I agree, there is no reason to rebuild your engine at 250k if you want to put head bolts in thats fine but it deff. doesnt need a rebuild

In that case as long as the clutch is in good shape you should turn the pump up, add a fuel pin, and get a 12cm exhaust housing. That should easily put you around 250whp 600wtq. With the light truck and even that power you will out tow and flat out run new diesels. Plus pick up a few mpg.
