Rear wheel scraping noise

I have a new sound coming from the rear wheel on my 91 D250. I can get the sound to stop just by pressing lightly down on the brake pedal. My rear brakes are drums, and I do need to check them anyway. But off hand, does this symptom sound familiar to anyone? I don't understand how the sound goes away when I press the brakes!?!?
Any info appreciated.
Jeff

It's probably a broken or loose brake-spring.

Always buy a new spring-kit, when replacing the brakes, and replace ALL of the springs/retainers with new; you can keep the old ones for the occassional emergency.
