Rear spindle lock nut

Anybody know of a place to purchase rear brake drum (spindle) locknuts and lock tabs for a 93 CTD? Also would like to know if a
2 1/2 inch socket is used for the removal of these nuts and where to buy? I have tried NAPA and Sears, largest carried is 2 3/8

You need to get a special 2 9/16" socket with rounded corners to remove the nut. Most parts houses can sell you one -- NAPA usually stocks them, but they aren't cheap. Or, you can jam a cold chisel into the space between the flat on the nut and the inside of the hub, then turn the hub to unscrew the nut. I don't approve of this method, but it works in an emergency.

New nuts and lock "pins" are dealer items. Ford used them as well, but I am not sure on what specific trucks. My truck has ford nuts on the rear hubs right now . . . my local dodge dealer sells ford too, and has a combined parts room.

You can also use the nuts from the front axle. Parts Mike Parts (on the web) sells the re-useable nuts with the pin-type lock washer for under $30 to do both sides.

Alec is right on. I just did this job. Because it is a Dodge, any parts or tools you buy will not be listed in the books for your application, but it IS the 2 9/16” rounded corner socket. While you’re at Napa, they should also have the nylon insert locking nut and locking wedge available. These items were on a display rack, and listed to fit Ford F-350 and E-350.

Howdy,

My NAPA listed the Nyloc nuts and and lock at $52.00 each!

My price...$40.00 a side.

That's $2.00 more per side than Dodge's list price...

I got mine at Murray's Auto Parts for $20.00 a side...nuts and locks both.
They might have to order them for ya',but it's the best price I found.

Hope that helps...

Vinny

Murray's wants 29.99 for the rear,per side...

What's the part # for the ones you got at NAPA for $15.00??
