Rear slider

I finally got around to getting a new pane of glass for the sliding rear window, I can barely see out of the plexi anymore. At the wrecker, I just Bent the metal channel enough to pop the window out. My question now is how do I install the new one? I'm imagining there is a way to do it without damaging the channel, anyone done it before?

I insert a heavy string into the rubber channel leaving about a foot of tail overlapping at the top. Then while me and a buddy apply pressure to the window I slowly pull the string straight out from the joint running down both sides so it brings the gasket out with it and the window drops into the channel.
