rear lockers??

Anyone have any good words regarding putting a rear LSD or?? in a 250 2wd? Love the truck, but its the most uncapable offroad vehicle i`ve ever seen. Wonder if ARB has a air locker. I havent heard much good about the cheapo kits. the kind you just replace the spider gears. I think there to weak for the mighty CTD.

I've also had good luck with ARB's, if you tow much you'd be better off with the ARB than say a DETROIT just because of possible handleing problems. My $.02

I've always liked the Detroits I've had. I would forget to turn on and off the ARB. ARBs are also pretty expensive. A Lock-right type spider gear replacement locker isn't going to be strong enough, and I wouldn't weld the rear end if you daily drive it, the rear 14FF on my jeep is welded and sometimes it's not very fun on the road.An LSD won't realy give the off road performance you're looking for unless you build it to where the clutches are very tight. I used to have a Detroit in the back of my jeep and it never gave me problems daily driving it.

So, in conclusion, I'd get a Detroit. I just bought one for my front Dana 60 and it was around $500, a Dana 70 should be about the same cost.

for 80 bucks more you can have the arb, then you just need an air supply. its a toss up . depend son your aplication really. i like having the choice to either have it off or on.

I like the ARBs, Wish they made one for a dana 61f **** 3.07s, I guess dana 60f will be on my wishlist. If you do go with them make sure you protect the air line to the diff otherwise you will have some minor problems. Having a compressor on your truck isnt too bad either.

Ares, are you certain it wouldn't fit your front? I think 61 only indicates a reverse spool for front application, still same as a 60 though. Ford has used 3.07 in model 60's too. The ARB should fit most D70's, except with 3.07 gears. The 3.07 gear takes a smaller carrier. D60 carriers can take that size gear, but the D70 carrier had to be modified for that gear. To put any locker other than stock in a D70, 3.07, the locker has to be machined down to the specs of the 3.07 carrier.

(It seems like an IH Scout I had once, called the D44 up front a 45 as well. Indicating reverse rotation, but same specs as the 44 rear).

Theres not alot of info out there on the 61, if it was 61 to indicate reversed id think there would be more info around. Also many 4x4 people avoid them like the plague for swaps on their jeeps. From what ive gathered, the 60 carrier wont fit in the 61 housing. My 61 looked smaller than the 60 1990 with a getrag. Id like to change to 3.73 and eject my 727. Even if they did offer one and Id still wanted to change my gearing, the gears for the dana 61s smaller carrier are probably non-existant.

Maybe you and someone with a getrag could look on their equipment sticker and see if its 60 or 61.

Mines a 61. I'll check the Hanes I have, I thought it mentioned the 61 indicating a reversal? You won't get 3.73 in the back without swapping to a different 70. It takes a whole different carrier, which wont go in your case without machine work. .
