The Rear End is ???????????????????

When I am going around corners it feels like rear end is catching. What I mean is it feels like the clutches are sticking.

It has been getting worse. I did add the limited slip fluid, again, in it just 4 months ago. The fluid was changed two years ago.

If I change the fluid, what would you guys recommend. Is synthetic better?

I do tow.

Thanks for the help.

Sounds to me like your limited slip is in need of a rebuild. A new clutch kit and possibly new cross pins and side gears are in order. Wannadiesel knows where to get parts, I'm sure he'll post that up soon.

Reider Racing is where I got mine.

Pull the cover for a look at the spider and side gears, if you let it go too long you will need them along with the clutches.

Does it take any special tools or thinking abilities?

Do I need a manual or does it come apart and go back together the way it looks?

Thanks

If rebuilding the limited slip, it comes apart and goes back like it looks. If you have a dial indicator, check the backlash while you have it apart. If you have 150K+, it's likely time for a rebuild if you havent done it already.

Nope, it's not real hard. You need basic hand tools, a torque wrench, and a vise (with soft jaws or some pieces of hardwood to hold an axleshaft), air tools are nice but not strictly necessary. Mine took me about 2 hrs in the driveway.

What do you think. And is Synthetic better than regular oil??

If it's a tow rig use synthetic, otherwise conventional 80W-90 is fine.

Is there any synthetic that is better than the other, and what weight should I use. The same weight as the regular oil for the rear end??

Thanks

Use the Royal Purple Max Gear and you don't have to worry about putting in the LS additive - it's already mixed in.

In my experience, using Mobil1 or Amsoil, you still need one bottle of Mopar friction modifier. If using dino gear oil, two bottles. I'd rather have it slip a little before grabbing than start grabbing around corners in 30K mi (by the time it starts chattering/ grabbing, it's too late). BTDT in Mom's 92 several times.

Same here

My truck was chattering quite a bit as well especially under load while pulling a trailer. So much so, I thought I would snap a darn axle when making turns. Took it in and the clutch's were shot.

Got a company to do it for me plus changed all the u-joints; too freakin cold to be doing any wrenching outside!!!

It is cold here to. But.......

I found someone with a forced air furnace they were getting rid of. I ran gas out to the garage, hooked it up and now have heat in the garage.

I love it.
