Rear axle shock mounts
I never liked the way the rear shocks mounted, and having the u-bolt studs sticking down to get hooked on anything and everything is just a bad idea. I decided to make my own.
Things you need:
(2) pcs. 2"x5"-6" .188 rectangle tubing about 5" long.
1/2"-5/8" thick plate 5"x6".
(4) u-bolts, 5/8" hardened preferred long enough to go to the top of you spring pack.
3" (Dana 60) -3.5" (Dana 70) hole saw.
Drill press or heavy duty hand drill.
(2) shock bolts from auto parts store.
Metal cutting saw.
Welder or welding shop near by.
So first find the center of your tubing and mark it for the hole saw. Then measure down from the center point you just made to the position the shock bolt hole on the outside edges of the tube.
Drill the shock bolt holes first as it easier to hold on to the tube before cutting the axle tube hole. Then get out your 3" dana 60, 3.5" dana 70, hole saw and cut the axle tube hole.
Now split the tube in half on the band saw or with a hack saw. Now you need to cut the bottoms of the new brackets at and angle before welding them on.
Once the brackets are welded on install the shock bolts.
You now need to make or buy some spring plates. www.offroadexchange.com has the print for a Dana 60. I had to make my own for my Dana 70.
These survived and entire weekend at the silver lake sand dunes in Michigan, hence all the sand over everything.
I have an addtional set of weld on brackets, shock bolts, and can make and provide spring plates and u-bolts as a kit, if your interested PM me.
