Rattlin driving me crazy

Hey guys,

i have this annoying rattling noise that just started about a month ago every tome i hit a bump. i've checked the exhaust, taken the loose tailgate off, checked every nut and bolt, the shocks and nothing seems to be loose. the shocks don't move when i pull on them, but they are 17 years old. could this be the noise or is it in the rearend?

thanks

It couldnt hurt your ride to replace the shocks. And one question for ya---How can you differentiate one rattle from 14 others?

I take it you beleive the noise is coming from the rear of the truck. If it is in the front I would agree with bullfrog 5.9 ,he is refering to the front brakes . On my '90 one of those springs let go very shortly after newly installed.
Another thought is, do you still have the spare tire hanging under the truck ?
Do you have running boards with some loose mounts?

Same rattle, ended up being the shackle bushings were shot on all four corners. Only rattled over bumps and other weird places in the road. Now the 4x4 shifter was a different story!

Check the front anyway. Just before the accident I discovered the dust shields were rusted off and it is annoying as anything. ANY little bump n it sounded like the truck falling apart in million pieces. Also check your bed mounts. just give a good hearty tug on all 4 corners.

Question Have You Looked Under The Seat ??

When I was a kid, I had an uncle to spend a fortune trying to eliminate a noise, only to find that two coke bottles were rolling around under the seat.

I finally found out today what the noise was. Now this REALLY makes me mad becuase its something I should have absolutely, unquestionalby seen immeadiately. But as I was driving down the highway, the grill fell off the front of the truck. Then I hit a bump and the noise was gone! The grill was shot anyways, so I'll just get a new one. Just had to let her fix herself.

I thought you said it was from the back. I have over load springs and the rubbing blocks were worn out and the springs were hitting metal on metal.
