ratio converter

After replacing the TPS with the pontentiometer, I am still having some shifting problems but have it isolated to the speedometer ratio converter. For some reson with it removed everything (OD, cruise control and speedo) work fine with the speedo being about 20%off. But with it hooked up the cruise is jerky and again start to have od problems. Makes no sense to me. What could the ratio concerter have to do with this, any ideas?

Is the drive tang on the convertor square? Over time these tend to round off and slip within the transfer case drive gear.

Yep sure is. I actually had it working great but then it rained and the speedo quit along with all the other problems coming back. I pulled the converter off and it worked fine even in the rain. Makes no sense to me The converter is totally mechanical I do not see what rain would have to do with it.
