I looked into that too, but stuck with the OEM. You won't find a company, at least I couldn't, that didn't advise to use the electric as a supplement only in our application. They won't warranty or be responsible as a full replacement.
Well I finished the upgrade. Here's what I had to buy.
93 model radiator model number P1198 from carpartswholesale.com for $147
Cummins thermostat housing 3920353 from reliablegoods.com for $38
I bought radiator hoses for a 93 model and a new thermostat from Napa. I don't remember the cost of this.
I ended up cutting the side brackets off of the 93 radiator so it would fit inside of the 89 radiator support. The 93 radiator has two pegs on the bottom brackets. I lined the radiator up and drilled two holes in the bottom radiator support for the pegs to slide into. I place two old body mount bushing off of a jeep project on top of the two body mount bolts in the radiator support. These bushings are what the radiator sits on.
I made some simple brackets that hold the top in place but actually think that the radiator shroud would hold the radiator in place. Since I did not modify the radiator supports, I could remount the fan shroud in its original location. It is spaced of of the mount about 1/2 because of the extra thickness of the 93 radiator over the thickness of the 89 radiator.
The biggest problem that I see in this swap is the height of the radiator. The hood will barely close but it does fit.
I took the first real trip this morning and drove it for about 45 minutes. I only have an idiot gauge in my truck but the temperature was about three clicks below where it used to run. It also does not fluctuate like it used to.
I am very please so far and will post back if anything changes. Thanks for everyones advise and suggestions.
