Leave the oil filler elbow off while you have it running and take a look. That seal sees a little bit of case pressure+inlet pressure so it could only leak when the case pressure rises.

How well does the seal fit over the shaft? Groves worn in the shaft? How hard is it to pull the seal out of the case to change it? Is the case seal surface smooth? And the last one ive got for you...where are you getting these seals?

Well, the shaft was pretty smooth and the old seal was tough to get out. I put the new one in with locktight. I planned on watching for a leak with it running next. The seal came out of a bosch seal kit

Ok, I ran it with out the oil fill tube this evening. Check out the video, I guess the bushings are out of my pump. I could see fuel drops coming out of the gear case when it was running so that's where its leaking, but that seal didn't leak when it wasn't running. Listen to the gear ringing noise in the video, this truck has about 180K miles on it, do you guys think I need to look into replacing the drive gear too? I could hear a little bit of that noise when I bought the truck and I thought it was the AC compressor but its much louder with the fill tube off.

I think a reman pump is in my future.

Yeah, it sure does look like he has too small of a belt on, or part of it separated.

Reman pump is a must. I suggest taking a look at the gear before purchasing a new one, they are not cheap! With only 180k on it and I doubt that pump has been doing that for too terribly long it should be ok.

With a good pump bushing the gear will quiet down a good bit. Mines fairly loud with the tube off too but you shouldn't be able to hear it with the tube on at all.

That bad bushing would mess with the mesh of the gears and might make it sing right???

That's alright, I didn't really take offense to that. I know it needs a belt, but I want to get it healthy first.

Yeah, I'm going to pull the pump again, but that's not that big of a deal. I'm just happy to know what the problem is. I'm tired of guessing.

Yeah, that's making in sing worse than it should. If you look close in the video you can see the gear oscillating and the pump shaft wobbling around. I didn't notice much play in it when I had it off, but with that big gear on there its pretty obvious.
