pump

I want the govener spring and i need to weld a nut on my fuel screw. how hard is it to take off the pump. Im a greenhorn. when i do this ill prolly change the manifold gaskets cuz they r leakin exhaust.

Just curious but why do you need to weld a nut on the fuel screw???? If you are missing a locknut just pull the screw right out (you'll dribble fuel once it's out) thread a new nut on and your good to go....
Also, you don't need to remove the pump to do the governor spring and I'd recommend NOT removing the pump. It's a fair bit of work to get it out and even more to get it back in place...being a bit "new" to this will make it a REAL challenge for you and you may find yourself in a pickle....no flame intended here, just some advice from having "been there, done that, got the T-Shirt"...

All you gotta do is loosen the pump mounting nuts and single bolt, rotate the pump away from the head (down towards the drivers fender) pull the pump top, install the spring, replace the pump top and finally rotate the pump back towards the engine head and tighten it up...done, good to go...

well my fuel screw is stripped so bad nothin can get a grip on it. so im gonna weld a nut on it so i can turn it up or replace it
