Project Advice, Ride Quality
Project Advice, Ride Quality
Howdy Folks,
I'm like some input on a project I'm contemplating....
My father in law passed away a few years back.
My mother in law, now uses his 93 3/4T, 2wd, 5sp, reg cab, garage kept Dodge as her daily driver.......I say daily driver...I think it just hit 80k original miles.
So, I have an idea to make it more user friendly, for the long term for her.
I'd like to make it ride smoother.
My idea is to replace the springs with 1/2t springs (it'll never haul heavy again), and put some good shocks and load range D tires on it.
questions: Has anybody out there done this and if so, did the springs fit OK?
I had toyed with also switching it over to an auto, but from what I gather, the tyranny swap just isn't feasible.
What has me thinking g this over again, is that I spied a donor truck for sale....
I'd be interested in any thoughts on making this happen.
Thanks

Don't put D range tires on the front. A Kelderman air ride setup is the best way to go on the back. Leave the front springs alone. How many leaves are in the rear springs? The base ones are only six leaf, and those are pretty good.

I just put Air-Lift airbags under the front of my leaf spring Dodge that's about 1 ton suspension. Now have a very comfortable ride for a heavy duty truck, much better handling, smoothes out a lot of bumps. Of course air is fully adjustable, an extra plus. Rear is next.
I wouldn't downgrade to D series tires, too much weight there and no advantages at all, suggest using E rated.
