problem: Electric LP and Cooldown timer...

Well I'm gonna redo my fuel system and was gonna run a carter electric pump off a 24 valve with at least 3/8" or 1/2" lines along with a sump. So I will need power when the key is on... but then I got thinking about my cooldown timer and if i turn the key off and it still runs to cool the truck down it will shut the pump off too, starving the VE from fuel. So what do you guys think I should do? I just need it turn off when the truck turns off and not the key. Maybe I oughta just go with a mechanical piston pumpafter all... any ideas?

You can switch the relay that is going to power the electric lift pump from the power wire from the fss. I have a cool down timer and a fass pump and I just found a hot with the key on and used that to turn the pump on. When the cool down timer is running the truck it hot wires the ignition kinda to keep the fss open so it will run. Just set the timer to run the truck and look for a hot wire and then shut it all down and make sure that wire does not have any power when the truck is off. Then you should be good to go.

so pretty much hook it into the FSS? I haven't torn into it yet, so I'll look into it more when I get there. I just got thinkin about it today and got a little worried. But then I got remembering on my buddy's 24 valve, he had an airdog and a cooldown timer on his chip so i could ask him too. Thanks.

You can use the fss wire to switch the relay that powers the fuel pump. Do not try to power the pump directly off the fss wire it won't work.

I vote for the low pressure piston pump.

If you run a power wire from the battery, to the relay (with the appropriate inline fuse), to the pump, then take a wire from the FSS to the relay switch, it will shut down when the timer shuts it down.

I thought You had a pull cable?
MorparNut gave the best solution to your problem. Next thing would be some type of oil pressure switch to switch a relay. But the blue wire is much simpler.

I still got my pull cable, and used that for quite a while, but I ground my plunger down a while ago since I got a cooldown timer. Its a pretty dang nice thing to have, I've enjoyed it.

I thought about going to low pressure piston pump and couldn't make my mind up for a long time but I got two of these electric pumps for free so i figured I'd at least try them.

Thanks for the help.

it probably would'nt hurt the ve to pull it's own fuel idling with no load on the engine either.
