powerstroke too embarrassed to pass me

while on the way to the hardware store the other day I looked in my mirror and saw a 05 or so ford coming up behind me..It was smoking bad.he slowed down and wouldn't pass(4 lane road).as we came into the city limits I figured I would slow to 35 in a 45 to see how bad it smoked when he went by,but he never would pass me. for about 3 miles I went 35.I think he was just too embarraced to pass the ole dodge with that pretty truck smoking like a frieght train.I don't get off on other people problems or anything but I think my ole truck thought it was funny.

I noticed that people on the highway apparently HATE being passed by an old multi-colored dodge while cruising in their new whatever it is they are driving.

I went and picked up a new floor jack yesterday and I was just running along with the cruise set at 71. I'd pass said people and get over, then they would blow right back by me. Couple miles down the road, still going 71, pass them again. And sure enough they would blow right past me again. What the deuce people?? This happened with half a dozen different cars going both directions, so not an isolated thing.

They slow down when they get on the phone and speed up when they hang up

I feel the same way. On the Junk PA turnpike I run 70-75 in my heep and whenever I pass someone that's driving in the right lane, they hop over to the left lane and speed up behind me and start "pushing me"

I think people hate when I woop their butts from a dead stop too, With like 1/2 pedal (enough to hear the turbo)- I've seen kids in their Civics just fly up next to me to keep up.

Amazing how intimidated and jealous people act when they see a 20 Year old rusty stinky truck on the road

A lot of people do that to get out of the exhaust smell. To most people the smell of diesel reaks. After they get in front of you they forget after a few minutes and your back around them agin.

I have noticed that no matter which vehicle I am driving if I have the cruise on I pass people and as said above they pass me a few minutes later and it goes on.
I think it is because with the cruise on speed is very consstant while if they are not using cruise their speed varies because they are not paying attention to what they are doing. Scary thought.

My son (Sam) just got back from a parts run to Iowa. He was on cruise at 71 on the freeway, with nobody around except one coming up fast from behind. That one came right up on his tail, and stayed there. Sam dropped cruise and floated down to 50 mph, and the guy just stayed on his tail. Sam then turned on the 4 way flashers and pulled over. He waited a minute, then got back on the highway and set cruise for 65. Within 10 minutes he had overtaken Ace. When Sam pulled out to pass, Ace kept beside him. Sam finally hit the chip switch and floored it, smoking Ace out. After settling down to 71 again, Ace came up behind and stayed on his tail again.

Go figure.

I think it's a pernicious death wish. These same people will get under the right mirror of a semi, and stay there.

@J_Martin.. Sometimes you just have to pull over and let people like that get a few miles ahead of you. That's what I do.

I got sandwiched between a 2nd gen and a 3rd gen (with a trailer) the other day. It was like we were in formation or something. I didn't feel like getting in a speeding match with the 2nd gen so I just pulled it over and let them get ahead a mile or two. I used to do way more stupid stuff but I need to keep my driving record clean, and I am getting older and more mellow.

It's just better to pull over then to risk a confrontation nowadays, cause you never know what people might do.

He did that. When he caught up to Ace, Ace was doing about 55 on the freeway. When he went to pass, Ace paced him up to about 75. Sam had been on the road all day, and just wanted to get the day done. Believe me, Sam's not the confrontational type.

If it were me, I think I would have performed an ABS brake test.

I think some may do it because of how loud the exhaust is. My mother in law was following me on the highway the other day and said even 3 or 400 yards behind me she could still hear my truck and she had her windows up.

When I'm hauling my turbo whine is almost unbearable when passing another car or truck.

It happens a lot in a semi, too. Running on flat ground at speed, you'll play hopscotch with someone for a while. Eventually sometimes you can get beside them and a row of traffic behind you and pin them in and get rid of them. Not just cars either, guys in Peterbilts, Volvos, and sometimes Kenworths really can't stand having an old FLD Freightshaker pass them up. Sometimes Western Stars, too.

Want to tick off a guy in a Pete? When he won't get off your tail, ask him if he's drafting so's he can save enough fuel to afford him a screwdriver so's he can adjust his friggin headlights down onto the road where they belong.

I found that having a flash camera tended to get people to wake up when it went off especially at night. Nevermind its an empty film camera they don't know that.

Around here you'll find a lot of people tailgating someone doing 50 in the 65 zones and afraid to pass until someone else does, then they are tailgating you. More often they won't pass even once you pull out and go by a half dozen of them.

he was afraid he couldn't steer it because of all the drool on his steering wheel, from following a read diesel truck!!
Or maybe, he was smart and knew he didn't have the power to get around you. Even at 35 mph!!!
