power steering shaft- how did you pull of the driver...
...from the end of the shaft? If I need some type of tool, which one. The NAPA PS pump did not come with the pressed on fitting on the end!!
I believe you need a hardened bolt, cut off the hex head so you just have the shaft of the bolt or the shaft of a drill bit sans the actual drilling part. You slide that down into the shaft of the pump and run the "tool" down onto it to drive the gear off. They sell a long hardened bolt "tool" with a square nut if I remember correctly, might have another nut also, CRS these days...
I'll run out to the shop and get my FSM and get you the length of the "driver pin" and I think I noted the bolt length in there too. Hold on a few...
Qouting from the FSM here. "Make a pin from 8mm or .312 inch hardened drill rod or a 10.9 or SAE Grade 8 capscrew." This pin is 2 inches in length (50.8mm).
Insert that pin into the pump shaft and screw a M14-2mm threaded capscrew in against the pin. Tighten the capscrew against the pin, drawing the gear/eccentric/bearing assy off of the power steering pump shaft.
Also, I noted: 2 3/4 length, 1" O.D. washer and square nut
I seem to remember using the shop vise at some point during disassy./ assy. and swearing ALOT. Good luck

The power steering pump off the Cummins engine will have the gear/eccentric/bearing on it, the Factory Service Manual Diesel Supplement directs you to do as I previously posted. You make the "pin" and tighten the bolt down onto it to "draw" the gear etc off the pump. That was not hard to do if I remember correctly. But installing the gear/eccentric/bearing onto the new pump was a real PITA for me, I did it by hand without air tools or pwr tools. ALOT of swearing...
