Possible headgasket, need advice! 911!!

Ok last night i go to check my oil and realize that my dipstick has a creamy white substance stuck to the end of it, i wipe it off and reinsert dipstick and its still on there. I go to check my coolant and it is low and the overflow tank has this white film floating on top of the coolant. I am thinking it is the headgasket. Any advice is much appreciated. it is a 93 with 372000

Check the radiator for engine oil mixing as well.

Does sound like a head gasket though.

Run the engine with the radiator cap off. Do you have combustion gases exhausting from the next or any bubbles in the coolant? If you see neither of those symptoms, you should be ok on the headgasket.

There's also a chance that there could be an internal leak in the oil cooler on the passenger side of the block. If you feel so inclined as to drain the coolant, you could remove the oil cooler and have it pressure tested by somebody.

i ran it with the cap off and couldnt really see any bubbles and didnt notice any fumes or gases. It was not up to temp when I did it so i will look again tonite after it is up to temp. Is the white stuff in my coolant oil? and if so what is the white stuff in my oil. Is it just the same mixture

It doesn't have to be up to temp when you check it. If the gasket was damaged between a cylinder and coolant jacket/passage, it would still bubble through it.

The white in your coolant could just be some scaling that has dislodged from within the system. I can't say for sure though.

ok the reason i was leaning towards a HG was because of the whiteish smoke and the white slime in the oil and the fact that all this white stuff in the course of 2 days, also the coolant level dropping significantly

If the head gasket is allowing enough anti freeze to get into the cylinder to produce a steam, you should be able to smell it in the exhaust.

I would check your oil cooler too. It's kinda strange because oil pressure is higher then coolant and usually it's oil that gets in the coolant. Could be quite a few things, pressure test the cooling system, check for bubbles in the rad and smell the exhaust for a sweet smell

I'm with J_martin, too. The white-ish smoke is probably from both loss of compression and steam.

just got home from school with the truck up to temp, i had no bubbling in radiator or overflow, i can smell coolant burning from engine bay and exhaust i think, plus when i take out my dipstick or oil cap i have white smoke coming from them. I know this usually means rings are shot, but is it possible it could be the head gasket? smoke from dipstick is thin and wispy but smoke from oil cap is thicker (cap is on #1 valve cover). I really hope its not rings.

id start spraying bolts with PB blaster now... i just had my head milled and put a new gasket on. if you have a decent set of hand tools and a cherry picker doing a HG job isnt bad at all. costs like 300-350 bucks with the milling and new gaskets.

I wouldn't rule out the oil cooler.
