POD's haze- no cure I suppose?
Hey, Alec, back on that pin that pops out and rides the power pin. Under driving conditions, that pin slides in and out on its own, correct? I've looked at cross sectional views of the VE that BC847 posted on one of the search threads I was looking at, but I'm not understanding what would pull the pin back inward on its own. Is it the actual shape of the stock power pin or aftermarket power pins that cause it to go back inwards, as the diaphragm retracts upwards in a no boost situation?
Final report on the DAP 5X12 VCO's
So, just got back from my morning test n tune drive. The drive included hills, freeway on ramps, passing cars, catching up to vehicles far ahead of me, punching it at both high and low boost. First, the common variables: 1. Weather was in the mid 90's, so A/C was on at entire test 2. I stuck with the highest tension AFC spring from Hungry Diesel- great mod, by the way. 3. At idle and at a stop, my rpm's were constant @ 800. 4. Propane fumigation left off. So, test #1, in which I dropped the star wheel 1 1/2 full turns. Goal was to make achieving 25 psi boost easy, and 30 psi attainable, but with extra effort, just as I had set up with the PODs. Also, to keep low boost and idle smoke at minimum to gone. The results were almost there. Still had to try somewhat to get to 25 psi, but it was easier today than it was yesterday when the star wheel was way up. Still couldn't get up to the speed I had gotten accustomed to with the PODs. Test #2- turned the star wheel 1/2 turn downwards s'more, so now a total of 2 full turns. The result was my spool easily hit 28 psi, 30 attainable with effort, but my turbo was not caught up to the boost, if you know what I mean. So test #3' I backed off and turned the star wheel CC 1/4 turn, which now puts me at a total of 1 3/4 full turns down. Perfect. The trucks pull matches the boost, 25 psi boost easily done, and 30 psi with slight effort, attainable. If I romp on it at anytime, and pop up the rpm's quickly by 400, the smoke comes on. Steady acceleration and slight to no smoke. At idle, stopped, the old POD haze is gone 95%. Still hazes ever so slightly, but not that bellowing, smelly haze the PODs put out. This haze is somewhat clear, if you can picture that. Passing on the freeway was a breeze- can get up to 70mph so fast. Cruising flat at 70 mph put me at 6 psi boost. Catching up to cars 1/2 mile ahead, piece of cake. The one important thing I noticed was, with the truck now really hot from testing and the hot weather, my at stop idle rpm's stayed at 800, where sometimes with the PODs the rpm's would drop by 50, and the engine would seem like it was lugging, especially with the A/C on. So, I want to thank all that commented and offered suggestions on this post. You all that suggested the VCO's, you were right in that for the most part, they burn clean. So glad I got the 5X12's. I almost got the 5X14's, worried if I would lose power, but these 5X12's are plenty for me, and the lack of haze is a plus. Now I don't have to cower down and hide my mug when I'm stuck on highway 680 on a Friday, not wanting to make eye contact to all those commuters gagging on my exhaust! As a final note, those folks at DAP were pleasant to deal with. Once I placed the order, injectors were in in 2 days
It sounds as though you are pretty happy with everything now, but if you are really bored, I would be curious if advancing the timing cleaned up your haze . . . what timing are you running now?
Nice that now you have done all that work you are happy! It beats the alternative.

Alec, I do not ever mess with the timing or have I ever bumped my pump. Years ago when I decided to run propane injection Wannadiesel advised me cautiously not mix timing bump with propane, as he stated that propane already advances the timing. I've injected propane into my rig since, say, 2004, and never had any ill effects from it. I have it set for passing and climbing any sort of freeway grade, so it only comes on at 10 psi boost. I like it; I know it is old school as far as power add ons, and just to give one an idea of how much propane I inject into that engine, well I just filled up my bed mounted 8 gallon tank. The last time I filled up before that was a little over a year ago. Timing increase at a flip of a switch. It's there if I want it. And, yes, in short, I am happy with these DAP injectors. Being bored has allowed me to take care of things I've been putting off on this truck for a long time now, LOL!!
