Theres some black h4 conversion headlights on ebay that would look slick, theres VHT nightshades paint for plastic lenses from Summit that you could use for the signals. For the mirrors, I stripped the chrome off by peeling it, then lightly sanded and shot with a couple coats after some plastic adhesive, so that they would last longer. Thats a good idea for the door handles, I may do that also.
I agree with rbrett about the door handles and mirrors. I painted my mirrors black and it really made a difference in my black/white paint scheme. My steps are in Galveston at a friends shop awaiting sandblasting and a black powdercoating and my door handles will be powdercoated black soon enough.
Here is one recent pic with black mirrors.

I was wondering if I was the only one that didn't like all that bright work. A couple of years ago I decided to try to tone it down a bit. I decided just to blacken out the cross in the grill. Like you I really didn't know if I would like it or not so I used black duct tape. It really didn't look to bad. I replaced the tape once but it really held up well and I like the look. I used garellia tape. It holds up tons better outside than regular duct tape.
