PEAK Antifreeze Weak as Water
Nine Pound Hammer is one of my favorites.
My dad was an architect for the KY State Parks and he helped design a lot of the lodges, cottages, cabins & manager houses when they were building up the park system in the '70s. In the summer and during school breaks I'd go with him & stay at the various parks while he oversaw design & construction. Got to see a lot of pretty country that way. Spent a lot of time around LBL and Eastern KY. I remember being amazed when listening to "Nine Pound Hammer" that I had actually been/was in those places they sung about - Harlan & Hazard. It became real to me then.
I don't know how to make the pretty picture come up but this is supposed to be Merle singing it.

This is an OAT type coolant that must be tested with a refractometer to get an accurate reading, since the floating ball style testers do not work. Truth is, there was a lot of time and money wasted, and the coolant was fine to use all along.

Then, pray tell, why does my dial-type (no *****) Ethylene Glycol tester show other OAT type 50/50 mixes to read -34° and the only OAT that reads less than zero is the Peak that I returned?
The IAT vs OAT is the additives only; both are still Ethylene Glycol.
It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!

Howbout forgetting the fancy testers and just take a cup of PEAK or any other antifreeze and putting it in the freezer for a few hours or overnight and see what happens?
Or is this test too simple?

That is what I did with a gallon of Napa brand 100% years ago. I left it outside the back shop door for several days when temps dipped down to -25F at night and barely 0F during the day. It was still not freezing up.
Seemed to be a good test for me. I then poured it in my radiator straight.
Depending on how cold you want to test it down to you might be able to use a commercial freezer if you want it colder than the freezer in the kitchen.

10F Would almost be good enough for the majority of winters here in KY. If he could find a willing meat processor, their freezer would be perfect - but the USDA inspector may not like the little experiment...
On a side note (which I tend to do more often these days) I bought a brand new deep freeze on sale around 2015. It all the sudden crapped out about 3 years ago with 600lbs of beef in it. I dug an old (round cornered, maybe 1970s???) frigidair out of the barn that somebody had given me years ago. It's been purring along fine ever since. The crappy 2015 era chest freezer is now a mouse/coon proof feed/mineral bin.

I knew an old guy years ago that had a couple of chest freezers buried in a corner of his shed, he would use them as storage for his carrots, potatoes and apples. He would use sawdust in layers when filling them and it seemed to work good.
It is so bad around here that I keep my horse feed in the air-conditioned living room, behind the wood stove.
In really humid weather, you have to be careful buying it at the feed-mill because the dampness may have already gotten into it before you get it home; when you see them banging on the augers with a big rubber hammer, maybe it is not a good day to buy feed.

It is amusing to read how this thread has wondered into different subjects. Antifreeze, music, freezers, mold, sawdust etc. Not a problem in this case as it demonstrates a sort of a comradery and reminiscent of the old DTR that appears to be vanishing,.
A little off topic here and there but at least people are posting and chatting... loosely about Dodge trucks.
