PDR Hybrid HX35/16cm combo- who uses?

Anyone here running one of these? Or an HX35 off of a 2nd Gen? Reason I ask is I found a performance shop who sells the Wicked Wheel compressor prop upgrade made for the HX35 turbos. That thing, with its extended tip design, looks like it could move a lot of air. Pricey bad boy that is. Just Wondering if anyone's upgraded their compressor prop to one of those, and looking for feedback.

The HX35 CHAR will bolt right up to the H1C exhaust housing. I installed the GDS 60mm wheel on my H1C, a simple bolt on. They also have one for the HX. Some aftermarket wiz wheels require machining and some don't. IIRC, the GDS 60mm is bigger than the HX35's 58mm. In any case, more air is more better.

You know, Mark, I am unsure. Check out Bob Riley's site, called www.dieselsite.com. I've purchased stuff from him for my '02 PSD back in the day. Been awhile since I've cruised his site. I see he's branching over to Cummins upgrades, which is good, 'cause back then he was a performance aftermarket supplier strictly catering to the Powerstrokes. I'm actually looking at his turbo to intercooler to intake manifold boost leak pressurizer/ leak detector as an investment for maintenance purposes but again, when $$ allow. Pretty clean set up. I could probably cobble up my own pressure tester with PVC fittings and such, but I'd probably end up wasting my time and fuel gathering parts leading to a hokey set up.

He has the kits for coolant and ATF filtration, which I have on my Dodge. That pressure gage he has that mounts on the ATF filter head works slick. Also, all his filter heads incorporate a true bypass, so fluid still flows if and when your filters clog up. I believe at 25 psi pressure the bypass opens up.

I did not like the mount system he had though, and that was to mount underneath the cab onto the frame. I don't like the fact that a lone pebble could puncture a filter full of ATF or coolant, so I modified the install and plumbing to mount under the hood instead.
Think I'll call him tomorrow to find out about shipping turbo upgrades to CA, and get back to you

This is what I am looking at. what size turbine housing do you run and how do you like it?

Sorry for hijacking your thread Augie.

I found this interesting.

The part about the Ca turbos being different. They probably are smaller or restricted.

Thanks, see that now. I am curious, now. Bought my PDR hybrid back in the mid 2000's before CA got strict on the diesel emmissions. Gonna check on that turbo ID number

What's so special about this Wicked Wheel aside from it being larger than the 56-57mm in the standard HX-35 and having extended tips? For that price (maybe a little more), you could find an HE351CW which would probably net about the same results.

If you look at the dyno graphs they supplied, the Wicked Wheel actually hurt performance on an engine in stock form. Probably simply because of the wheel being larger. Thus, increasing spool time.

Yeah, this is what I was looking for- opinions! Me, personally, never bought into the hype of the WW when it was introduced back in the day. It looked like too much work and $$ to cure compressor surge on the 7.3. Went another route to fix that.
I was curious if anyone here installed one, and raved on the performance just like the fellas did on the reviews posted on that site.
Still curious if I was "grandfathere'd" in on that turbo, though. Gonna check those numbers

Chip, member "ofelas" runs this turbo. I guess he likes it. hopefully he'll chime in. that being said, i think an he351cw is a more worthwhile upgrade.

Ok, did some follow up by calling Piers Diesel on this Wicked Wheel. So, they told me for what I already have, the Hybrid HX35, I would basically be "downsizing" back to a "stock" HX35, because they actually modified the compressor housing on the Hybrid to accept an HX40 compressor wheel. On a stock, unmodified, HX35 off of a 2nd Gen it'll make a big difference, but not in my application. Ok, so that's that. Thread closed. Thanks on the opinions of others who chimed in.

What You are running is very close to what I am thinking of putting together.

Back in the mid 2000's, for my use of the truck at the time, Mark Wilson of PDR highly recommended the combo I have. He also did ask me about future plans of racing the dang thing, and I said of course not! No way! So off went the order for the hybrid. I've dyno'd the thing, back in like '07, and I believe I was able to get around 260 hp with the mods I currently had at the time, along with that turbo. I believe the max hp for that is 350. This was all before I learned about the powersroke intercooler and 3" piping upgrade, so who knows where I'm at.
On a positive note, Mark also told me if I ever, ever, decided to upgrade to a compound turbo set up, the Hybrid I all ready have is suited for one of the turbos. Top or bottom, I do not know. So if I bought a twin turbo set up in kit form, having this already would be a savings in $$.

I've sold a ton of them over the years. Glad your still liking it.
The problem with just buying a wheel is your turbo will not be balanced and if you buy a larger wheel, then you either have to have your comp housing machined or buy a all ready machined cover!
