Passenger bucket seat mechanism
Passenger bucket seat mechanism
1st gen buckets are comfortable, but in the extended cab, the passenger bucket tilting, folding, lever-actuated pin and hinge mechanism is not very solid. Mine is getting to be like a rocking chair.
Has anyone mounted slider rails and base on the passenger side? Access to the rear isn't exactly great to begin with. Thought that with slider rails and base mounted somewhat forward so that when fully slid back the seat would be in much the same position as it now is...when slid fully forward and seat tilted forward, might give about as much access to the rear.

If that seat is moving around it has one or two problems.
Check the hinge and see if it is broken.
Check the floor pan and see if it is breaking out around the bolt holes.
I had a hinge break on mine around a decade ago.

I put buckets in mine with bases that iI pulled out of an early 80's reg cab, although I don't think the bases were original in that truck. Access is ackward to the back area but can be done with the seat slid right forward.

Well my floor pan is solid, but the seat locking mechanism isn't all that tight and more to the point, the seatback has about two inches of play. Doesn't bother me all that much (since I don't sit there) but drives my wife to distraction. Never pulled a seat apart to see if it can be rebuilt or tightened up. Feels like a pawl, pin, latch or whatever is holding the seatback fixed relative to the seat is worn out. Hinges work ok though. Smooth operation, no crunchy sounds.
Subscribed to this thread, as my passenger seat "wobbles". Really cheapo design on the seat mechanism, and I'm looking forwards to others ideas on how to reinforce the assembly.

I had the exact same trouble. First I found the seat bracket was cracked where it bolted to the floor. I Mig welded the crack back together. The back of the seat would move back an forth and not always lock in position. If you remove the tilt leaver off the seat and pull the little gear out of it. You will more then likely find your problem. Mine had random crap stuck in the teeth of the gear.I also think if the gear is missing teeth you could rearrange the missing teeth to a position that the seat would never be in while seating.
Like Phillip said, check that hinge. Mine was cracked and the darn seat would wobble and rattle like crazy. I used a piece of heavy duty piano hinge (sourced from McMaster-Carr) to repair it. It`ll take some cutting, drilling and welding but its a pretty inexpensive fix.
