Parts Geek input

I am in the unfortunate position of having to purchase some parts for my truck. You know, the usual stuff...front bumper, grille shell, headlight assembly, etc. Don't ask me what happened, let's just say that I'm admitting I'm an idiot. Anyway, anyone ever order anything from "Parts Geek" online? I think it's partsgeek.com. They have some really good prices (like $54 for a grille shell and $100 for a front bumper), and I'm just wondering if this is a case of "you get what you pay for"? Anyone know if these parts are any good or dealt with them before? Thanks.

Their customer service is the worst. Just google their name and complaints, you'll see.

Anyone have any suggestions of companies they've dealt with online and it gave you that warm, fuzzy feeling?

It has been my experience on the internet, that many times people complain, even when the problem was partially their fault, like not completely reading the ad, etc., So sometimes reviews need to be read carefully and between the lines. Just the fact that you have not had many negative responses says a lot. This review site has a negative about 4 or 5 down, that he is complaining about out of stock condition, among other complaints. All parts companies do this, except the few that do not charge until your item ships, like Rock Auto. They have many more positives than negatives. If it were me, and the price is right, I wouldn't worry...my opinion, of course...Mark

Well Mark, here's the issue I had. I ordered a grill shell, it arrived damaged. I conferred with the driver and chose to refuse to accept it. I contacted partsgeek via e-mail and explained the situation and was told no problem, they would be expecting it and would issue a refund. I asked if they would just send another to replace it but was told they don't exchange parts.

It took 6 weeks to be refunded, this included numerous e-mails which went unanswered, and one after 5 weeks asking me the rma # that wasn't issued as the shipment was refused. Luckily I kept the string of e-mails which showed his acknowledging the refused shipment and agreeing to refund me.

However the refund did not include the shipping cost. There's a great policy, send the customer a damaged item, refund only the cost of the item, not shipping. So now I'm supposed to reorder the grill shell and pay shipping again? Great huh?

Perhaps you will be lucky and have a successful order with this outfit. If you are unlucky such as I was, be prepared.

That is too bad. Was the box damaged? There is a good chance that it was damaged by the shipper, but good customer service says that they 100% refund and they deal with the shipper. I have had real good luck with Rockauto.com . They recently took back a part, that I had ordered incorrectly, after their 30 day return policy had expired, although I had to pay return shipping. This seems to be industry standard. Also, they sent me a bad wheel cylinder once and when I called, they immediately sent me a new one and didn't even require that I send the old one back, good customer service....Mark

There was no evidence of damage in the packing. I opened the box with the driver present, the grill was wrapped in a thin foam layer, inside a bag, inside a box, must have come from their supplier that way.

Rock Auto is another story, I have nothing but praise for them and would recommend them to anyone.
